This is a very good post to learn why you need Self hosting blog:
Now the question arises why you need Wpengine?
- All bloggers are not tech savvy – All bloggers are not WordPress expert. If you have your own self-hosting, you need a little bit of HTML, CSS knowledge and also sometimes have to troubleshoot issues. You need a hosting provider which will do most of the things in the background and you focus on the content building.
- You need to use too many plugins to handle things – As a self-hosted blogger, you need to take care a lot of things in WordPress by using plugins like caching, speed, backup, etc. More plugins need more maintenance.
- Stuck with so many WordPress hosting – Market is flooded with so many Web hosting provider. most of them are not optimized for WordPress and hence, they are slow and lack performance.
- Security – Daily thousands of WordPress blogs are attacked and will result in either denial of service or loss of data. They all need a service provider with strong security inbuilt with it
- Better performance – WordPress blogger are facing the biggest issue which is slow loading and poor performance. You need to fix a lot of things and have to be a good technical guy.
Wpengine is giving so much importance on Blog Speed and performance. Actually, 80% of the people switch to Wpengine because it improves the speed of the blog. As we all know speed brings more visitors and customer to your blog. A better performance also gives you page a good SEO and better page ranking.
This infographic explains this fact very well.
So now you know what is Wpengine and why you need it? Let’s see what are the features of Wpengine:
So Let me come back to the review of Wpengine. I have taken a personal package which is good for one WordPress blog setup.
Please check below tutorial to learn how to buy Wpengine and setup it for your first blog.
Ok so now you are very much familiar with Wpengine, let me review its advantage in detail:
Speed – Just one word Wow!! It is amazingly fast. There is no comparison. I have my blog hosted on Bigrock and Groupmail-review.com is hosted on Wpengine. I installed same WordPress theme on both of them. Please find comparison below.
I am convinced that Wpengine will increase your blog speed by more than 60 percentage. No wonder it is sold mostly because of better blog speed and performance.

Support – I am impressed with the Wpengine service. I had to wait for 3 minutes for an online chat. The support guy seems very well familiar with the WordPress technical stuff. He helped me quickly with the example.
Their online chat support, ticket, and phone are available 24X7. Their response time is also decent. Please find a snapshot of the chat I had with the online chat support.
Backup and Restore – Backup and restore are very important for WordPress blogger. Buying it from outside will easily cost you $5-$20. Wpengine has inbuilt Backup and restore and it is very easy to use.
I like it very much as I do not have to take backup manually or using third-party storage like Dropbox.
Firewall and threats – Wpengine automatically upgrade WordPress as and when new patches available. They will also troubleshoot issues with you in case anything comes up after the upgrade.
They also claim to protect you from the real-time attack like denial of service, brute force, XML-RPC, SQL-injection etc.
Ease to use – I have not found any difficulty to work through their dashboard. It is very easy to use with a lot of video tutorials.
You even do not have to remember admin URL of your WordPress blog; it is by default present in the dashboard.
CDN – As you know CDN service is used to load your static content faster and it will reduce your blog load time and ultimately improve blog’s performance.
Blogger usually buys their CDN services from third party vendor like MAXCDN, Akamai, blue coat etc. Wpengine has this ability inbuilt that make it easy to setup.
As it is not free with the basic package, you have to buy it separately. Though, It comes free with professional package onwards.
Staging – This is an excellent feature from Wpengine which I have not seen anywhere else. It lets you work in a test environment before you go live.
Let’s take an example; you are making changes to your themes, or adding a new plugin or trying to change CSS. You save and your blog blown away, it started looking ugly. People see it live and they have a bad experience. You do not want that.
Why not have an isolated area where you make changes and only you see it. If you feel fine they will replicate it on the main site. WPengine gives you one-click staging button to do that.
There is no additional charge for it. I have created a video tutorial to explain it.
Price – Lets come to the very important point which is the cost. The Wpengine package starts at $29/month.
For a blogger to start, I would recommend starting with a personal package with one WordPress blog. The package price differs by the number of WordPress blog and numbers of visitors per month.
If you buy other hosting services like Hostgator, Bigrock, Bluehost etc and then add the cost of CDN and backup services the cost will come around $15/month. So the price of Wpengine is, at least, $12/month more.
Remember every package in Wpengine comes with 60 days full money back policy if you are not happy.
But with Wpengine you get better speed, best WordPress support, security, staging inbuilt CDN. This is certainly not for new blogger but for a serious blogger.
In my opinion, every penny you spend for Wpengine is worth. I fully recommend this managed hosting for your WordPress blog.
